In 1988, a pivotal experience changed Thierry VELU’s life. During his military service, he was involved in operations to combat forest fires in the south of France and took part in rescue efforts during the devastating floods that struck the city of Nîmes. His intervention in Armenia, following the severe earthquake that rocked the country, deeply affected him.
Moved by the suffering of the afflicted populations and aware of the need to address the lack of resources at disaster sites, Thierry VELU embarked on a quest to develop a robust and ambitious project to assist victims of natural or human-made disasters. Over the years that followed, he worked tirelessly and took multiple steps to bring his project to life.
In 1999, after a decade of research and dedication, Thierry VELU finally realized his dream by establishing « Le Groupe de Secours Catastrophe Français » (G.S.C.F). Surrounded by a team of firefighters who shared his passion and ambition to rescue people affected by disasters, he intensified relief missions and actions to support people in distress.
The humanitarian firefighters of the GSCF do not just provide aid to victims; they are also convinced of the importance of acting both before and after disasters. That is why the GSCF extends its commitment to prevention and training, thereby enhancing its impact far beyond our borders.
